2019 Final Round European Hurling/Camogie Championship

October brought with it the final round of the 2019 European Hurling and Camogie Championship, which was held in the lovely city of Dresden. Despite a day of rain and lower temperatures than the previous rounds, Dresden Hurling pulled of a fantastically well organised event enjoyed by all.

We travelled 500km by train with a full hurling team and two (!) camogie teams. The second of which was supported by players from Dresden, Darmstadt GAA and Stuttgart GAA who, playing for the first time together as a team, managed to finish a day of battle as runners up in the first ever Camogie Development Shield! A huge congrats due there!

The hurlers secured the 2019 European Shield early in the day with a win against Berlin. Following on from that with tough games against Belgium, Luxembourg and finishing up the day with a win against the hosts themselves.

Our camógs ended the day positioned second in Europe for the second year running! From the first throw-in they drove on with wins against Berlin and Setanta Berlin. A draw with Belgium secured their place in cup final, where they would play their old rivals for the second time in the day, the game ending with Belgium taking the lead by only 2 points.

We also had the great pleasure of passing on the ‘travelling hurley’ to Setanta Berlin. So far it has travelled 17,000km across the globe to spread the game. You can find out more at www.hurlingnear.me.

Congratulations again to Dresden for hosting a wonderful event. To Belgium GAA for picking up the double. To the refs and all other teams involved for making it a very enjoyable end to the years championship.

Benelux Regional Championships 2019

A great day out in Den Haag, competing in Round 1 of the Benelux Regional Championships. With the hard-tackling Hamburgers, the die-hard Düsseldorfers and the finesse of the French lads from Lille GAA, we lost out in the Shield Final to hosts Den Haag GAA. Hamburg GAA at Cultec European Championship 2018 Round1

Cultec European Championship Round 1

Heart. Hunger. Hurleys. 28 Hamburg GAA members made the 500km trek to compete in the first round of the Cultec European Hurling and Camogie Championships in sunny Dresden at the weekend.

It was a huge day for our young international club, with all three of our teams showing fight, intensity and togetherness to reach each of the finals!

Our camogie team continued on from last year to make the final once more, with Belgium GAA emerging victorious from a spirited and pulsating encounter.

Our hurlers burst out of the blocks to make it to the Cup final, claiming a second place spot overall after giving it everything against worthy winners, Luxembourg GAA. And our Hamburg Rovers joined forces with The Earls of Leuven G.A.A club to reach the final of the hurling shield, losing out to Vienna Gaels GAA by the narrowest of margins.

The progress at the club was clear to see from each team’s performances throughout the day. We’ll keep training and fighting. And we’ll go again.

Congratulations to all the winners and, of course, to the hosts Dresden Hurling on pulling off another brilliant event!

2018 German Hurling & Camogie Champions!

We did it! A proud day for us all yesterday, with Hamburg’s Camogie players and hurlers doing the German Cup double, bringing home the Sebastian Rießbeck and Chris Hennessy Cups.

The fight, togetherness and leadership made the 30-strong group from HH a force that wouldn’t be beaten, and lifted Hamburg’s own Padraic McCannon to the award of Player of the Chris Hennessy Cup. And sure the craic was 90 afterwards!
